Chapter 271: Ghosts Entering Through The Front Door
"Haahh…that should be enough…" Shye said, wiping the sweat off his face after yet another good harvest.
Instead of going back the morning after they hunted the Winged Boarger, Shye decided to hunt a few more creatures for around five more days since he was already in the zone anyway, collecting system point rewards and loot after every kill.
This was their sixth day hunting creatures ranging from (C-) to (B-) rank and so far, Shye has successfully disposed of each one with unmatched ferocity and skill.
Initially, Seira trembled in fear.
She couldn't fathom how they, a two-man party of gold and platinum rank, would defeat the (B-) ranked flying creature.
Well, Shye showed her how, and since then, her courage and insight in battle slowly grew, allowing her to contribute to the upcoming battles, adding value and convenience for Shye.
Seira wanted to continue hunting, however, they had to go back for now and turn their initial quest in.
Shye still had to head towards Blackburrow City and attend the auction, after all.
Walking in the direction of the zone's exit under the afternoon sun, Shye and Seira chatted merrily about their successful hunt.
A few hours quickly passed.
Since the two of them preferred to sleep inside the city today, they continuously walked since the afternoon, allowing them to arrive at the city gates at around 10 in the evening.
An hour earlier than the two of them expected.
Upon entering the guild branch headquarters, a few people looked at them in suppressed disbelief, prompting Shye to narrow his eyes.
'Heh, what? Why are you guys acting as if you've seen ghosts? Should we be mere ghosts right now?' Shye inwardly sneered in disdain, remembering the faces of those who knew about the assassination.
He would never trust these guys.
Not now, not in the future.
On the other hand, some were shocked due to the fact that they tried to take on a (B-) ranked quest and survived.
After everything that happened in the past few weeks, they knew that Shye wasn't some sort of pretentious bastard and he could more or less back up every claim he had, turning a few haters into mild fans as people slowly understood his true nature and respected it.
He was indeed arrogant, however, only to those hostile to him.
Seira was living proof that the guy had at least decent life principles.
Since the two of them just returned from a crazy quest, holding a brown sack bag with a green base at that, the people couldn't help but speculate that they succeeded.
Only, if such a thing was true, then it would simply be too crazy.
After all, how could a mere two-man party composed of a gold and a platinum-ranked adventurer, defeat a (B-) ranked creature which would be difficult for even a party of three or four ruby-ranked adventurers to take down?
Curious, a few of them once more stood up from their lobby seats, discreetly walking closer to the rewards desk to see if Shye and Seira really took out a Winged Boarger.
Even Receptionist Aya temporarily left her post to see if they actually succeeded.
She didn't expect to see them again, after all.
Shortly after, everyone got the mind-boggling answer they wanted yet refused to believe.
"S-Sir Crowley, M-Miss Ramah, I see the two of you are back. May I please see the quest items?"
"Here, please confirm if the quantity is correct."
Handing over the sack bag, Shye calmly waited for Shauna to count the items for a few minutes, and by the time she almost finished counting, her hands were visibly shaking in disbelief.
"T-The quest items are indeed c-complete…let me process the quest completion for you…"
In just a few more seconds, the silver coin and guild contribution point rewards were successfully processed, bringing a satisfied smile to Shye's face.
As for Seira, She was practically on cloud nine.
This was the first time in her life she earned 2500 silver coins (which didn't even include the silver coins from the loot yet) and 400 contribution points in a single quest, after all.
Before following Shye around, she would consider herself lucky if she managed to earn around 800 silver coins and 150 contribution points in a single quest.
But now, after successfully persuading Shye to allow her to join his party, her income and point earnings practically tripled.
It was the opposite for Shye though, who was used to receiving the full rewards of a quest.
Well, he still thought it was better this way though.
Having a companion to help you in times of emergency was priceless as it could translate to one's life or death.
It seems that the first mandatory quest was just a warm-up anyway.
It wasn't that hard to accomplish.
Still, he didn't allow himself to be too complacent.
After upgrading his intelligence attribute, things became clearer to him, hence, he knew that this might be some sort of preparation phase for the upcoming mandatory quests.
If he didn't take this chance to grow as strong as possible, he was sure he would regret it in the future.
Somehow, he could sense that things wouldn't be as calm for him once the true mandatory quests unveil themselves.
Still, he was determined.
He started to have ambitions of grandeur, however, achieving such lofty goals wasn't mandatory for him.
What he truly wanted was for his little sister, his parents (if still alive), and his future family, to have high-quality lives in the future, and for that, he's willing to go through everything.
Such things were still too far off in the future though, for now, earning 2500 silver coins, 400 guild contribution points, and a total of 18,000 system points in a single quest was enough to make Shye happy.
Now that he has 1200 guild contribution points, he just needs maybe four or five more quests to rank up to platinum.
The next quests would have to wait for quite a bit though as the White Clover Auction in Blackburrow City will start in six days.
