Chapter 126
Mr. Zhang felt dizzy and disoriented. When he opened his eyes and tried to touch his head, he realized his arms were bound tightly with rope.
Panicked, he struggled to move his arms, wanting to cry out, but his throat was so sore that he couldn’t make a sound.
Slowly, his memory returned, and he recalled what had happened.
His business had collapsed due to a broken capital chain, and the Pei Family had been sabotaging him at every turn. No one was willing to lend him money to keep his company afloat, and now he faced not only bankruptcy but also massive debts.
All of this was because his mother had offended Qiao Chuchu.
Filled with anger over the past few days, he had hired someone to sabotage the Wei Sheng Family's surveillance system. Yesterday, after getting drunk, he disguised himself as a staff member, armed with sulfuric acid and a knife, intending to kill the Eighth Miss of the Pei Family and drag someone down with him—if he was going to die, he’d take someone with him.
But before he could harm the Eighth Miss, she had fought back.
The Eighth Miss of the Pei Family was like a force of nature, tossing him around as if he were a ragdoll.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
He thought he was going to be beaten to death, but somehow, he had survived.
Mr. Zhang glanced around the room.
If that was the case, maybe he could still escape!
After all, the room seemed empty!
Suddenly, a flame flickered to life in the room.
Mr. Zhang was shocked to see that the room was now filled with people, sitting or standing, their cold eyes fixed on him in the dim light.
Mr. Zhang screamed, “Ah!”
Had there always been people in this room?!
Weisheng Yucan, holding a lighter, lazily said, “What are you screaming for?”
She lit a cigarette, casually turned on the lights, and leaned against the wall. “We didn’t want to disturb your sleep, so we kept the lights off. We thought we’d talk to you once you woke up.”
Mr. Zhang looked around in terror.
How... how were all these industry titans here?!
Pei Yuan stood by his bed, his dark eyes gleaming with venomous intent. “When you were begging me for help, you were willing to give your life. But when I refused, you decided to kill my sister instead, didn’t you?”
He toyed with a small knife in his hand, his voice dripping with menace. “If you wanted revenge, why not come after me? Did you think my sister was an easy target?”
Mr. Zhang’s face turned pale, and he stammered, “I... I had no other choice!”
His voice trembled, tinged with self-pity. “You said you’d help me, but then you withdrew the funds just because my mother said something offensive. I was desperate for money to solve my urgent problems!”
“That’s your mother’s fault! What does that have to do with my sister?!” Pei Yuan slammed the knife into the bed, his voice low and furious. “And even if I withdrew the funds, why come after my sister instead of me? You thought she was weak, didn’t you?!”
Mr. Zhang’s eyes reddened with indignation. “But your sister is so sensitive! My mother only said she was raised without a mother!”
Pei Yuan’s voice rose sharply. “She and I share the same mother! Insulting her is insulting me!!!”
Mr. Zhang froze, his entire body trembling with fear. He muttered weakly, “But... but you two aren’t... biologically related.”
Pei Yuan, with his striking features and noble demeanor, usually carried himself like a gentleman.
But now, his eyes were bloodshot, radiating murderous intent. He leaned over the bed, his voice filled with unhinged rage. “Since I took over the company and gained wealth, I’ve spared no expense for her. Her skincare is custom-made for her skin type, her bags and shoes are the finest and most luxurious.
Pei Yuan’s voice dropped to a whisper, like a vengeful spirit from hell. “I’ve bought her the best education, the most expensive diamonds without hesitation. I cherish her as if she were my own life. And yet, you dared to bring harm to her?!”
Mr. Zhang flinched, his voice cracking as he defended himself. “What else could I do? I had no way out! If I’m going to die, I’ll take someone with me!”
Pei Yuan’s eyes darkened, and he sneered. “It seems you’re incapable of reflecting on your own mistakes.”
Mr. Zhang’s eyes widened in terror. “What are you going to—”
Weisheng Yucan flicked the lights off with a sharp “Click!”
Three minutes later, Pei Yuan emerged from the room, his expression grim.
He had washed his hands, the scent of soap lingering on his skin. His pale hands were red from the cold water, and he meticulously dried them with a handkerchief before lighting a cigarette. He exhaled a cloud of smoke, his frustration evident.
Weisheng Yucan walked out of the room with a smile. “Patriarch Pei Yuan, your decisiveness is truly admirable. It’s no wonder you’re the backbone of the Pei Family. Such resolve is exactly what a leader needs.”
Pei Yuan tapped the ash into the ashtray, his tone indifferent. “I should thank you for giving me the opportunity.”
Weisheng Yucan’s smile widened. “I initially wanted Huai Ling to handle this, but since Qiao Chuchu is your sister, it’s only right that you deal with it personally.”
Huai Ling stepped out of the room. “Let’s move to another room. I’ll have my people handle this.”
Yucan gestured to Pei Yuan. “Shall we discuss Qiao Chuchu’s situation with the other families?”
Pei Yuan’s eyes darkened as he followed Weisheng Yucan to the second-floor parlor.
Weisheng Yucan assured them, “You can rest easy. This place is completely secure, both inside and out.”
She motioned for Pei Yuan to sit in a single chair beside her. “Take a seat.”
Pei Yuan sat down, glancing at his brothers.
Pei Che sat across from him, calm and composed.
The other brothers remained expressionless, revealing nothing.
Lou Tingsi stood nearby, smiling like an outsider.
Lin Qing and Lin Shen sat on the other side, eyeing Weisheng Yucan suspiciously.
Members of the Wei Sheng Family gradually filled the room and took their seats.
Weisheng Yucan began, “Now that everyone is here, I’ll get straight to the point.”
She looked at Pei Yuan. “We’d like to have Qiao Chuchu stay with us for a while.”
Pei Yuan: “?”
Pei Che: “?”
Pei Youchuan laughed. “What did you just say?!”
Pei Fengnong: “...”
Pei Mu and Pei Ci scowled in unison. “Miss Yucan, have you eaten something strange? Why are you talking nonsense?”
Pei Buxian, holding his dog, looked sullen.
Weisheng Yucan crossed her legs, exuding confidence. “To be honest, among our families, ours is the most exceptional. We have top-notch security, a luxurious estate, and I’ll ensure Qiao Chuchu lacks for nothing. She won’t suffer under our care.”
Pei Che sneered. “Your ‘top-notch security’ allowed my sister to lose her life here today.”
Weisheng Yucan’s smile faltered. “That was a one-time incident. It won’t happen again.”
“Who can guarantee that?” Pei Yuan retorted. “And why do you want to take her in the first place?”
Weisheng Yucan replied matter-of-factly, “Because we can hear her thoughts too. We know the world is trying to erase Qiao Chuchu. Naturally, we want to keep her in the safest place possible.”
Lin Qing interjected, “If that’s the case, our family is safe too. We’ve never faced any dangers.”
Lou Tingsi chuckled darkly. “I beg to differ. Our family has the best security. I dare say no one here can match our level of protection.”
Pei Youchuan scoffed. “That’s because you’re being hunted! You’ve beefed up your security because of your own dangers. Qiao Chuchu is already in enough trouble without adding your problems to the mix.”
Lou Tingsi shrugged. “The most dangerous place is the safest. I’ve protected my son effortlessly. Do you think I can’t protect Qiao Chuchu?”
Lou Yuejue chimed in eagerly, “My dad is really sharp! Let’s bring sister here!”
What do you think?
