Chapter 68 James and his group
There was a theory in the previous world that hadn't been proven till now. It was about the time when people get used to killing and think it's normal.
This may sound like something normal, people kill animals all the time but sometimes it's different. The same thing happened to Lucas, with how many things he had killed till now, he had become accustomed to the killing.
But it was not all, Lucas now had a habit of looking at things with the intention of killing aside from his group. He did the same thing with the people in front of him, the only problem was that he had started giving off a dangerous aura around him, especially his eyes which he did not know about.
Unlike the times when someone says 'I will kill you' and it just sounds like a joke. It was not the case this time as the people who looked at those eyes felt like they had gotten themselves in some kind of trouble.
Lucas had no idea what he was doing. He was very pissed that some stranger not only knew his skills but downright said it in front of everyone.
Lucas always had a plan, he knew that a day would come when they would meet some other people other than the group in the forest. But he didn't think something like this will happen in the first attempt.
All this time when he was thinking about what to do next, the other people in front who were laughing and grinning went serious. The man in the front stopped with his antics.
"Lucas... stay calm..." John said from the back, like before, he could tell what a person's emotions said and he was successful this time.
He knew these people were okay but seeing what happened, they could potentially get in a fight but he didn't know things would escalate this quickly.
"How did you know of my skill?" Lucas asked with anger evident in his voice. At first, he was somewhat happy that there were people near the group but the sudden situation made it difficult for him to be rational.
The man in the front looked at the boy who just blabbered about Lucas's skills, the boy knew he was in deep trouble and he just batted his eyes.
"We don't want trouble, my guy... I was being as friendly as I could and we didn't know you had such... unique set of skills, it was just a joke."
Lucas could feel some envy in the guy's voice when he talked about his skills.
"You still haven't answered me..." Lucas said again, this time, he was not angry but his eyes were staring daggers at the man in the front.
"My buddy here can tell other people's skills... He was supposed to see it and not react but... Anyway, we don't want trouble." The man said. This time his voice seemed to be honest.
Lucas was still not sure what to do with the situation. He looked at John for help who finally took things in his hands.
"Hey, my name's John. My friend here has a bit of a bad temper, you can't expect a normal reaction when you just reveal someone's skills like that." John said after some in the front, he had a smile on his face but his eyes were serious which the guy in the front noticed clearly.
"My name's James, no last name. Again I am sorry for what my friend did. Bill... quickly apologize." James looked at the boy whose name was Bill again only this time the boy nodded.
"I am sorry for what I did... Lucas, I presume." Bill said while bowing a little which Lucas didn't know why.
'I have a bad feeling.' Lucas thought while looking at Bill.
"Hey, the kid did a mistake, forgive him already," Sean said from the back pissing Lucas off even more.
"... It's alright. But if I see you activate your skill again... It will not be good for anyone." Lucas said while trying to be threatening. He activated his 'perceptive eyes' which made his eyes start glowing.
Bill looked at the eyes with surprise and couldn't help but feel fear. As if he was standing naked in front of Lucas.
"Lucas... behave." John kept a hand on Lucas's shoulder that made him deactivate the skill.
Lucas didn't want to be a problem but what happened just now was taken for granted really quickly. He had to show the others that he was not okay his skills were exposed so blatantly.
"If it makes you feel any better, I have a skill called blade arms," James said and moved his hands up, suddenly, two blades materialized out of thin air from inside his arm and touched his knuckles. The blade looked to be made of metal but Lucas wasn't sure.
"I think we have met in a very peculiar situation... maybe we should talk it out and go forward. You can't believe how happy I am seeing other people around here." John said. He was being very friendly as the way he talked could manipulate things to a limit.
"Oh... we can sit and talk if you want... Haley, if you would please." James looked at one of the girls who were near him. The girl sighed and moved her hand in a certain motion which made Lucas alert again.
Suddenly, a table and some broad logs materialized in front of them. Lucas and the others were very surprised by what happened.
On a second look, the table may have looked like it but it was just a bigger and broader log piece around its peers and was in the center.
"You have the skill to summon seating arrangements?" Lucas asked with a smile, he was genuinely happy to see something like this that could be a good addition to the shelter but the girl took things completely differently.
"Hmph! Do you think I am that weak, little boy? Look at this then." The girl made an annoyed face that Lucas didn't like, heck he did not like it when people called him a little boy. She called him a little boy when she herself around Lucas's age.
Suddenly some other things materialized out of nowhere, one of the things within those randoms was a purple-colored flower.
When Lucas's gaze fell on that flower, he knew that it was something good. At the present level of 'Herbalism', he was not able to deduce what it was.
"Ugh... Haley! Do you have to be so gullible all the time? Take all these things back again. Why did I have to get stuck with idiots!" James groaned while massaging his forehead. Your next read is at empiren/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Haley just snorted while looking at Lucas and suddenly made all the things on the ground dematerialize which made Lucas connect the dots.
'Some kind of a storage skill?'
Lucas couldn't help but be intrigued by the display of James and Haley's unique skills. His mind raced with curiosity, trying to make sense of the abilities they possessed. He had encountered numerous skills till now, but these seemed to be on a different level.
"You have quite an interesting set of skills," Lucas remarked, his eyes still fixed on the spot where the objects had disappeared. "Summoning and storage, it seems."
James chuckled, appreciating Lucas's recognition. "You've got a sharp eye, my friend. Haley here has a skill called 'Spatial Storage.' She can create and manipulate spatial storages to store and retrieve items."
Haley crossed her arms, a hint of pride evident on her face. "That's right. It comes in handy when you need to carry a lot of stuff without the burden of weight or space."
Lucas's interest grew, and he couldn't help but wonder about the possibilities that their skills could offer. He did not let go of a single word James had used... storage's', "This ability could be invaluable, especially in gathering and managing resources."
John nodded in agreement, he looked at Lucas whose mind had now been distracted from what happened before. A small worry formed in his mind about what happened back there.
'I will have to talk with him later...' John thought and left the topic for the future.
"Now you're happy right, I have disclosed my and her skills," James said, his face had a mild smile which Lucas could now notice when he was calm again.
"It's alright... Imagine what would I have started if Uncle John hadn't stopped me hahaha." Lucas tried to joke and break the small hesitation that everyone still had.
It was a great day, Lucas and the others found a new group other than them in this dangerous and unknown forest.
Yet he failed, Jame's smile froze while his eyes twitched. The others were not giving a good impression too. All Ella and Sarah did was sigh at the back.
"Uh... Anyway. Let's sit and talk." James chuckled and sat at one of the seat-like logs.
From Lucas's group, John was the first one that sat opposite to James.
"Oh... these are quite comfortable."
