Chapter 1224 Not So Covert Anymore

Chapter 1224  Not So Covert Anymore

Whoosh!

At the very moment Valyr pulled on the trigger, he swiftly shifted his focus towards the place where Cynthia was, pushing [Warrior's Eyes of Slaughter] to the utmost limit in order to make sure he could confirm the kill with great clarity.

Puchi!

Unsurprisingly, with the help of all of the skills he activated, as well as the experience he'd honed wielding weapons similar to the arquebus in the past, it was no surprise that the bullet he shot pierced directly through her skull, its damage more than enough to kill her in one hit.

Considering that she was already asleep before the two of them even began, the only telltale sign one would be able to notice at that moment was the bloody hole made by the bullet.

Other than that, one would easily think she was still in the midst of a deep slumber.

"It's done." Finally letting out the breath he'd been unknowingly holding all this time, Valyr faintly smiled at the damage value that appeared above Cynthia's head before looking back at Vaughn with a nod. "All that's left now is to dispose her body."

"I'll be the one handling that." Though he nodded back in response, Riekan went ahead and used his own skills to confirm Cynthia's death, his expression immediately turning jubilant the moment he did.

To no surprise, the man profusely thanked Valyr for helping him out with the request, only to then apologize not long after for implicating him in a difficult situation.

In response, Valyr told Riekan that it was fine, deeming it necessary for inauspicious omen like her to be removed as soon as possible lest more issues arose in the future.

Seeing that the young man wasn't affected by what he'd done in any way, Riekan decided to ask him if what he did just now weighed on his conscience. After all, without the basis of her negative karma, it looked like she was killed for no reason.

Hearing that, Valyr replied that it did weigh on his conscience a bit, talking about how the only proof they had that deserved her death was something only Myths and above would have access to.

Though, not long after, he reassured Riekan that it won't take long before he'd get over it, telling him that he'd been through similar scenarios in the past already.

Of course, when the young man mentioned the past, that pretty much meant his past life as a player.

Although most of the quests he got that involved killing were done in the name of justice or for the sake of purging greater evil, Valyr still received a few kill quests from time to time that bordered between the fine line between what's wrong and what's right.

In the end, he came to the conclusion that there was not really much point in thinking whether his actions were wrong or right.

As long as a high enough price was paid, he wouldn't mind turning a blind eye to requests that bordered between that fine line.

Other than that, he'd rather stay on the side of good, especially after seeing how the players that treaded the other path ended up.

Continuing to glance at where Cynthia was every once in a while, Valyr soon joked to Riekan that he should put a lot of effort into making sure that the upgrade to his accessory was as powerful as possible, making the latter let out a bit of laughter in response as he shook his head. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

However, just as the man was going to give Valyr a piece of his mind in return…

Rumble…

Out of nowhere, the ground they were standing on began to rumble, prompting both Valyr and Riekan to look around their surroundings to see where the rumbling was coming on.

Though, when they eventually found out that the rumbling was coming from none other than where Cynthia was, the two began to look at each other with slightly grim expressions, not expecting such a thing to happen.

"…At this point, I don't think there's any way to keep this hidden." Incredibly certain that the others from the clan would soon begin to notice that something was amiss, Valyr let out a faint sigh as the gears in his mind furiously turned to come up with a plan.

"Conjure a massive barrier around where Cynthia is for the meantime," said the young man after a bit of silence, his skill-empowered gaze now affixed on Cynthia's every movement. "You can do that, right?"

"Just give me a couple of seconds." Nodding back at Valyr's request, Riekan took in a deep breath to retain composure before releasing a great amount of energy into the air.

Whoosh!

"[Arcane Barrier]." Then, without hesitation, he swiftly went through multiple complex gestures in the span of a few seconds, causing an opaque barrier over a couple hundred meters in radius to surround both of them, as well as the building Cynthia is in.

"…Now what?" Swiftly grabbing a mana potion from a spatial rift he opened to replenish his lost energy, Riekan looked at Valyr once more before asking what they should do next.

"Now…" In response, Valyr's gaze continued to remain fixed on Cynthia's whereabouts, only for his expression to turn solemn not long after.

"We'll have to fight."

"Together."

Bang!

Just as those words left his mouth, the roof above Cynthia's building immediately exploded into a thousand pieces, forcing both Valyr and Riekan to move a few steps back to avoid the stray shrapnel that headed their way.

Continuing to maintain vigilance, the two of them eventually returned their focus back to where Cynthia previously was.

However, rather than be greeted by the sight of a woman that had already passed on to the afterlife, they were instead greeted by a pitch-black entity with red carvings all over its body that gave off an incredibly sinister aura.

And that entity was looking directly at the two of them!

"…So, who's going to fight it?" Continuing to keep his gaze on the dark entity, Valyr stowed all of the items he brought out back into his spatial bracelet before grabbing the blood-red spear behind his back. "You or me?"

"My skill set is more suited for rear-line support," replied Riekan, not wanting to waste even a single second on which among them did what. "However, I can also cast offensive magic from the rear."

"…Guess I have no choice but to go all-out, then." Wryly smiling at the man's words for a brief moment, Valyr soon let out a brief exhale as he activated all of the other stat-boosting skills he'd yet to use in his arsenal.

'[Refined Defense Aura].'

'[Flash of the Azure Dragon].'

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Dispelling the barrier that was surrounding him earlier, Valyr did not hesitate to flare his aura out in its entirety, prompting the dark entity that came from Cynthia's building to focus its attention on him.

Seeing that his actions had caught the entity's attention, the young man had a faint confident smile on his face, even though the entity's existence instilled both fear and terror into his bones.

Suppressing the negative emotions he felt at that moment, Valyr went ahead and cast his identification skill on the entity in order to find out what exactly the two of them were up against.

"[Superior Analysis]."

Ding!

"…Definitely an inauspicious omen." Deeply sucking in a cold breath of air the moment he was finished going through the status screen he received, Valyr closed his eyes for a bit before looking at Riekan.

"Are you ready?" asked the young man as he tightly gripped on his spear. "We're going to have to kill Cynthia Amerhearst one more time."

Indeed, the pitch-black entity standing before them was none other than Cynthia Amerhearst, the same person Valyr ended off with one hit just a few moments earlier.

Ever since the ground surrounding them began to rumble, Valyr quickly noticed that Cynthia was going through some sort of transformation thanks to his decision of continuing to look at her.

Watching her skin slowly turn pitch-black as bloody grooves slowly carved themselves on her skin's surface, the young man immediately prepared Riekan for the imminent fight beforehand.

At the same time, he was reminded of all the information he'd obtained on Cynthia, such as the incident that occurred in the Amerhearst clan, as well as Riekan's notes of her being an inauspicious omen to their clan.

Now that he was able to view what looked to be her true form in person, all of those thoughts quickly coalesced into a new thought, prompting him to think Riekan made the right call to kill her as soon as possible.

"…A Seed of the Underworld, huh," said Valyr whilst Riekan was still coming to terms with what he'd said earlier. "And here I thought I'd only start to see them after the war ended."

"Raaagghhhh!!!" In response to Valyr's words, the dark entity let out a furious shriek containing multiple voices, only to then charge at him without hesitation.

Swoosh!

"Step back, Riekan!" Seeing that the entity planned on making the first move, Valyr quickly told Riekan to distance himself from him as far as possible.

After that, he looked at the entity with a grim expression, imbuing his spear with Prime Azure Energy not long after before thrusting it outwards.

"[Four Paths Azure War Arts]…"

"[Four Paths Azure Liberation]."

"…"

"[Unfettered Spear]."
