Chapter 1096: The Curses’ Desire III - The Nest
"I am a disgrace?" Peter repeated what his daughter had thrown at him in anger. His face was beet-red, and he had to release his anger somewhere. That was when he ended up in the Nest’s training room. Peter stayed there for several hours until he was lying there, cursing himself and his fate.
"What would have happened to me if I had never met Paul Fang? Would everything be fine?" He asked himself quietly.
His meeting with Evalynn’s father hadn’t been great. He was a Lord in the Origin Expanse and in a fierce war with a Hyuman Lord, who’d nearly killed him. Peter Fang desperately grasped the last thread of his life while the Hyuman Lord had been looming over him. The Hyuman Lord was just about to kill him when Paul Fang arrived.

At that time, Paul Fang was already an old man. Still, the man was a powerful Curse User who loathed Hyumans more than anything. He killed the Hyuman Lord and every Hyuman Awakened and Summon. Paul didn’t care if they were combatants, children, elderly, or pregnant women. Paul killed every Hyuman after losing his beloved wife to a powerful Hyuman.
Their encounter wasn’t all that nice for Peter, but instead of being afraid of Paul, Peter was exhilarated. Witnessing the power of a Curse User for the first time was exciting. Peter was over the moon and asked Paul to teach him what he did. That moment changed everything. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Paul accepted Peter as his disciple and trained him. However, the training was anything but nice. It was torture, quite literally. Still, Peter prevailed and moved onward. He wasn’t talented but possessed the determination to prevail and keep going. That was what he did. Peter gave his utmost and overcame everything. He survived and grew stronger.
He…got to know Evalynn.
Paul continued torturing Peter, while Evalynn didn’t know anything about it. All she could see was her beloved father. The same strong and independent man who had raised her all by himself. He was alone and had to raise a child while fighting both inside and outside the Origin Expanse. But he prevailed.
At some point, Paul returned from the Origin Expanse with Peter. They used a high-quality Teleportation Token and met. Evalynn fell in love with Peter’s determination. She was proud of her father and had always dreamed of finding a man who worked as hard for his goal as her father. Peter was someone like that. Evalynn fell harder and harder in love with Peter, not realizing what her father was doing to Peter.
Paul was never satisfied with Peter, and his dissatisfaction with Peter’s talent intensified when he noticed that the only person he held dearly had fallen in love with him. Evalynn fell in love with Peter, thus sealing the young man’s fate. Paul increased Peter’s training program to an even higher level. Peter tried to overcome it, but the training was inhuman. Still, he found a liking to Evalynn as well and prevailed when he saw the love in Evalynn’s eyes.
Peter survived Paul’s training sessions, but something within Peter broke. He used his raging emotions to survive and grow stronger. That was necessary to survive. He had to survive. He had to grow stronger. If not, he would soon die.
Peter’s desire to survive transformed into an obsession to grow stronger…born in the hands of none other than Paul Fang.
The years passed in the blink of an eye, and Peter attained enough strength to rival Paul. That day – the day he grew strong enough to face Paul Fang head-on – was also the day his master died. Peter killed his master. It wasn’t merely for revenge and to repay the pain he had to endure over the decades. No. It was for freedom. Peter had to be free. He could not survive any longer in Paul Fang’s control.
Neither should his children grow up like this. They didn’t deserve a grandfather like Paul Fang.
Peter chuckled in between a few heavy breaths. He stared at the ceiling, his expression distorted in pain and confusion.
"I killed him to protect my children from a monster, but I didn’t turn out better than him. Abandoning my own children. If not for Paul, I would have never done that. He crushed me… He…" Peter knew it was useless to seek excuses. It was already over. Neither Michael nor Daniel cared about him. They grew up well, even if they had to struggle at times. The brothers didn’t care for their father. Why would they?
"Everything was great until Hesta awakened the White Tiger. If not for that…" Peter mumbled again, only to hear footsteps behind him. The clattering of heels tapping on the training chamber’s ground rang out, pulling Peter out of his train of thought.
"This isn’t Hesta’s fault either. Your obsession to grow stronger returned the moment you recalled the roots Paul planted inside your essence. He planted the root of obsession inside you to make you grow stronger. To forcefully accelerate your growth. He planted it inside you, but the depth of your desires is the reason the root spread through your entire being and blossomed. It is difficult for the root of obsession to grow into majestic flowers, but Paul achieved it with you."
Selena had entered the training chamber when she heard someone mumbling but didn’t expect it to be Peter Fang. She heard about his ’chat’ with Hesta and Evalynn Fang.
"What do you want from me?" Peter snarled.
"What do I want from you? Is there something you could give me?" Selena laughed, "I don’t think I need anything from you."
"Can you fuck off then?" Peter cursed, but the Nest Leader didn’t even twitch.
"How about you join the Human Protection Service? I think watching over a small planetary system will help you reorganize and rebalance your Essence." Selena offered, "I’m not forcing you to do something, but I think it would be the first step in the right direction – toward your family if you want to salvage your relationship with them…or what is left of the relationship – if you became part of the Human Protection Service."
Peter was about to cuss out the Nest Leader, but Selena raised her hands, stopping him before he could say something.
"It was merely an idea. Nobody is forcing you," Selena said before turning around to leave again, "Think carefully about it. Your life is not yet over. Do you really want to be alone for the next hundreds of years?"
Peter had a lot to say, but the somber tone in her voice stopped him. The Nest Leader talked like she was giving him good-meant advice…from her experiences.
"I…will think about it…" Peter grumbled, but the harshness in his voice was no more.
He returned to the ground, his sweat-drenched back pressed against the cold ground.
"Alone…I was always alone. So what if I stay alone for the rest of my life?" Peter grumbled, but the pictures of his life in Elyra flickered through his mind. Their life in the Golden Sun province made him smile. Raising the brothers and training tirelessly with Hesta had been great. There was no doubt about that.
He hadn’t been alone at that time.
He…had been with his family at that time.
But that was no more.
Would he go back to that time if he could? For sure.
Was that possible? Nope.
Nonetheless, Peter could still try to make amends. Maybe the others wouldn’t accept it, but he could try.
That was what Peter Fang did. His journey to reunite with his family began.
What do you think?
