"Oh, Reece…," I murmured.

"Your Highness," he smiled. "Are you okay…?"

"Don't ask about me. It's you who you should be worried about," I said. "I had no idea… you would have to be… I'm really sorry."

"Please do not apologize, Your Highness. It's not your fault," he said. He was less bandaged than Abel, who still had not woken up. But he looked very pale and seemed to have aged a couple of years in a short time.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"I just…," I mumbled. "There is no point in apologizing anyway, but I can't stop blaming myself."

"Your Highness, you did not go through anything less. What did they do to you back there?" he asked.

"… They did not want to kill me. They wanted to use me and my power," I said. "So, even if they hurt me, it was not…"

"Your Highness really was branded?" Reece gasped. "I heard two dark mages talking about when they came to our cell to… It actually happened… They really did it…"

"But it doesn't hurt anymore," I said. "It hurt a bit at first, but now it's okay. You don't need to worry that much. Rather than that, I will give you good news."

"What is it?" he asked.

"I am having a baby," I smiled.

"What?"

"Yeah," I nodded. "It's been five weeks already."

"I was unconscious for almost two months. I heard Your Highness came back near that time. You escaped," he said. "But then…"

"What are you asking Her Highness?" Ruby snapped. "How long do you think it takes to…?"

"Ah…," Reece turned red. "My apologies. I was just… And congratulations! Your Highness always wanted to be a mother."

"Yeah… Both Dem and I are happy about it. We are going to announce it publicly the day after tomorrow. I just wish you get better as soon as possible and Abel wakes up quickly," I said.

"Sir Abel… He was injured pretty badly. He was the one who protested the most and got tortured because of it," Reece said.

"The doctor said it will take time for him to heal," Ruby said. "He will wake up for sure. But it might not be possible for him to go back to being a knight."

I had heard about it before too. Abel was one of the most famous and skilled knights. I could not even imagine how hurt he would be to hear that.

Reece was taken to his parents' house after a few days. He would be in constant treatment for a long time until he would recover. I made sure he got his monthly payment as my assistant and I took care of his medical expenses. He promised to return after he recovered even though I told him to rest for now and not think about anything else.

"The extra money you sent him is more than enough. Stop worrying," Dem said as I was calculating in my office.

"Is it though?"

"It is. I think it's more than enough," Dem said. "It's fine if you give him, but you have been thinking about it all day."

"I just think it's not enough…"

"For now, stop a bit. If he needs more money for his medical bill, you will know about it," he said. "Just rest now. Remember, you need to take care of yourself. You literally have a living being inside your stomach."

"Why do you phrase it that way? You make it sound weird…"

"Just come on and rest, darling. You can do everything else later," he said. "You are even working. What is this? Who works in this state?"

"I am not sick!"

"But you are pregnant!"

"Being pregnant is not the same as being sick, Dem!" I pointed out. "I am pregnant, but I am fine."

"You need rest," he said. "I read in a book that pregnant women should not stress themselves out.

"Not all day! What is this? You literally are obsessing over my health, honey… I don't mean to say that you are wrong. I am saying you probably should not press this much and worry about my health excessively."

"It might sound excessive, but I need you to rest," Dem said. It seemed like he did not hear what I said. "And you will rest now. I don't want you to feel bad because of pushing yourself too much."

In the end, my arguing meant nothing to him and he took me with him to the bedroom to rest.

"Will you take a bath now?" he asked. "The maids have prepared water for you."

"Yeah…," I nodded.

"You all can leave," Dem told the maids without looking at them.

"… Are you going to bathe me?"

"Why? Are you shy in front of your husband?"

"I never said that," I chuckled.

The maids looked quite happy these days, probably because they had to do less work of mine because of my husband who wanted to do everything.

"Take off your clothes," he said.

"You make it sound weird."

"What? No, I am not," he said.

"Did you have to lick your lips when you said it?"

"It's just a basic reaction since I am going to see some things that I especially crave."

"Dem! We did it last night!"

"We can do it again. Is there a rule that if we do it the previous night we cannot do it the next day?"

"No, but I am not in the mood," I said, shaking my head. "Just bathing, nothing more. I want an innocent environment, Dem."

He let out a sigh. "Alright. I won't do anything extreme."

"Not just extreme. You won't do anything. We are just going to bathe, that's all," I said.

"We? You mean I can join too?"

"You never ask for my permission anyway. Why do you look so surprised? You hop in with me most of the time in the name of giving me a bath."

"And you love it," he said, inching towards me.

"Well, I do," I mumbled, giving him a peck on the cheek. I had to stand on my tiptoes to do so. "Let me take your clothes off then."

"Are you trying to provoke me?"

"No, just helping."

He opened his arms. "Go ahead."

I took his coat off. It was a bit heavy. I placed it on the bed. Then, I started unbuttoning his shirt. I could hear his rapid heartbeat.

"You smell nice," I murmured.

Dem had a different type of smell to his body. The masculine scent always fascinated me. He smelled good even when he was sweaty. It was pretty interesting, although I was jealous as well. If I was sweaty, I smelt like shit.
