Chapter 154: How Did You Know?
Arriving at the gate, it was a lot bigger now up close. At least three times higher than Alvin and the others, let alone the Familiars.
Alvin went to one side and Zandel to the other. Together, they pushed the gate together, trying to open it. The gate was quite heavy, but it still opened slowly. Alvin and Zandel made sure to open it completely in case they had to leave straight away.
The insides were once again dark, impossible to see.
"I wish I had something to put on the ground and prevent the gate from closing..." Alvin couldn't help but mention it. All boss rooms in most games usually isolate the player from the outside world, and Alvin was afraid the same would happen here.
Linfel's Magic Sense spread ahead. The, he got excited and shot inside, disappearing in the darkness. "Come on! Get in already!"
Alvin and the others didn't have Linfel's Magic Sense range, so they couldn't see much further. "Does he understand things aren't as easy for us?" Zandel complained in a low voice. Nonetheless, they all entered together.
*Vup, vup, vup, vup, vup...*
Several lights began to turn on one after another.
*Bang!*
Behind, the gate closed shut, not surprising anyone. Ahead, Linfel was standing in the middle of an arena. Finally, above, there was a chest that truly looked like those from games.
"Look! That has to be the treasure you guys kept talking about, right?" Linfel asked, his eyes shining... or they would if he had one.
The chest was almost a hundred meters above, so Milia and the others simply couldn't tell what was inside, even with their Magic Sense. Of course, they knew Linfel's Magic Sense. "Can you see what that chest is about?"
Linfel nodded. "There are some kind of... electronic tickets? I don't know. They seem to be some electronic cards or whatever. I can't tell what they are about, though.
There are twenty of them inside."
This Dungeon was made so no Magus or Familiar above Level Four can enter. The initial idea was for the chest to be so high that the Magic Senses wouldn't see what was inside. After all, over a hundred meters was much more than any Magic Sense at Level Four usually could go. Too bad that didn't work with Linfel there.

Suddenly, a holographic message appeared above the arena, explaining the rules related to that room.
-Rewards and risks come hand in hand. Above, there is a huge reward, but to get it, you must go through the risks.-
-Six participants detected, three maguses and three familiars. There will be no distinguishing between Maguses and Familiars. Six doors will be generated, and only one will be correct. The other five will result in the participant's death. The six participants must select a single door that will seal everyone's fate.-
-Warning: Not selecting a door by the end of the countdown will also result in all the participants' deaths.-
-There is one way to open the right door. For every participant dead, one wrong door will be discarded.-
-You have ten minutes.-
*Friuuuu...*
At the back of that room, the six doors appeared one after another. Right above, a countdown started, not giving anyone time to digest the information.
"Wait, what?!" Alvin almost lost his senses.
Zandel wasn't any better. "This is bullshit! This has nothing to do with one's ability. It is all luck!"
Alvin shook his head. "There is luck, but the Ventis Sect obviously wants us to kill each other! Why do you think there is an aran behind us?"
Nori turned to Linfel. "Hey, use your Magic Sense! Can you see anything on the other side of the doors?"
Linfel shook his head. "They have an array preventing Magic Sense from going through. I have no idea what is on the other side of the doors."
"Fuck! What now?!" Zandel cursed.
Milia narrowed her eyes. "Let's not complain. Think! There must be a trick here to select the right do-"
*Zup!*
Then... Linfel opened a door.
Everyone fell with their faces on the ground. It hasn't been even ten seconds! However, they quickly got up and prepared to defend themselves. Perhaps the room would attack them somehow. And yet... nothing happened.
*Tam, Tam, Tam!*
Then, several colorful holographic images appeared one after another, followed by a message.
-Congratulations!-
Milia was as lost as the others, looking at Linfel. "How... did you know that was the right door?"
Linfel turned back. "I didn't."
"What?!" Sure enough, the answer shocked them all. "Then why did you try to open?!"
Linfel shrugged. "Because there was no right answer. Or, to be more specific, all doors were correct."
*Zush!*
As soon as Linfel said that, a video call started where the holographic images were passing. In the call, a young man with green hair and a long beard appeared. -That's unexpected. How did you know there was no right answer?-
Everyone looked at the person in surprise. Were they being observed all this while? "W-Who are you, sir?" Zandel asked.
-Right, where are my manners? I'm Tandlau, the elder in charge of the maintenance of this Dungeon. I created it over thirty years ago, but your group was the very first one to reach this last floor. Congratulations!-
"Elder?" That was a little hard for them to believe. The young man in front of them didn't seem to be more than fifteen or so years old. And yet, he did say he created this Dungeon over thirty years ago. "Magic Aging Retrocess..." Zandel commented.
Milia's eyes immediately opened wide. As a member of the Frondor Family, she did hear about it. "The natural phenomenon of body aging regression achieved when one reaches Level Nine..."
Alvin, Nori, and Kefin couldn't help but tremble a little. Level Ten! For them, such an existence was pretty much a legend!
Linfel didn't look all that surprised with Tandlau's sudden appearance, though. "I mean, we had an elder at Level Eight taking care of something simple as Sect Recruitment. Sure there would be Maguses and Familiars at stage Ten or higher, right? Why all the surprise?"
Everyone's felt like kicking Linfel right there and then. The problem wasn't that there were experts at that level. Instead, the problem was that some nobodies like them were now talking to one. Can't Linfel understand this incredible fact? Even worse, such a carefree behavior might even anger that elder, which wouldn't be good for them.
-Hahaha!- Tandlau didn't seem to mind it. -You are quite the figure, little one. It is rare to see a Familiar leading a group, but I guess I can see why. So, can you answer my question now? How did you know all doors were correct?-
